Like gorilla and chimpanzee troops in the wild, the great apes at Lincoln
Park Zoo have a changing social structure that is affected by the arrival
of youngsters, the loss of adults and the introduction of newcomers. Take
a close look at the zoo's gorillas and chimpanzees and learn from an animal
keeper the special care these intelligent primates require. After our discussion,
enjoy refreshments and a tour of the Lester E. Fisher Great Ape House.

How many teeth does a bat-eared fox have? Find
out when you take a look inside the mouths of some animals, including bats,
big cats and crocodiles. Examine the different types of teeth that animals
have and how they are used. Take a close look at a ferret and a snake to
learn the differences between mammal and reptile dentition.

For adults age 21 and older
Join us for our first adults-only overnighter. Embark on flashlight hikes,
enjoy hands-on encounters with nocturnal animals and learn about life after
dark at the zoo. Featured presenters, including Lincoln Park Zoo's chief
veterinarian Dr. Robyn Barbiers, will discuss the sex lives of exotic animals,
the process of selecting mates for zoo animals, artificial insemination
procedures and animal contraceptives. Pack a sleeping bag, pillow and flashlight.
Fee includes a buffet-style dinner, refreshments and a light breakfast.

Grab your binoculars for an exciting trip to the Savanna Army Depot,
a wintering spot for hundreds of bald eagles, which only can be visited
by special arrangement. Alan Anderson of the Chicago Audubon Society will
be our guide as we spot bald eagles, hawks and other birds along the Mississippi
River. Dress warmly and pack a lunch.
Fee includes round-trip motorcoach transportation.

Late Night at the Zoo: Zebras

What's black and white and runs all over? Zebras! Take a behind-the-scenes
tour of the zoo's Antelope & Zebra Area, talk to a keeper who cares
for hoofed animals and study the adaptations these animals have for keeping
a step ahead of predators. Sandwiches, salads and soft drinks will be provided.

Celebrate National Pig Month down on the Farm! Learn about the multitude
of products pigs provide people. Meet the Farm-in-the-Zoo's sow and her
piglets, follow the daily routine of a Farm keeper, and then enjoy pink
pig cupcakes and juice.
This program meets at the Main Barn at the Farm-in-the-Zoo.
